Celebrating the release of Subject, Jason Eckardt's upcoming record on Tzadik, the JACK Quartet, ICE, and soloists Tony Arnold, soprano; Jay Campbell, 'cello; and Jordan Dodson, guitar will perform works off the new record as well as the world premiere of John Zorn's "Autumn Rhythm" along with his string quartet "Necronomicon." JACK will also perform Eckardt's "Subject," a work that confronts "enhanced interrogation" techniques using sound and light, including a complex lighting design conceived by the composer and fully realized for the first time in this performance. SUBJECT Beginning in the 1950s, the CIA became very interested in psychological research being conducted on the effects of sensory deprivation on humans. The research, that suggested rapid regression in those tested, provided a framework for sections of what would later be known as the KUBARK manual, the first in a series of US-government documents that provided techniques for interrogating detainees. Though the idea of sound as a weapon is at least as old as the account of Joshua's siege of Jericho, it was only recently deemed "inhuman and degrading" for the purposes of interrogation by the European Court of Human Rights in the 1978 case "Ireland v. The United Kingdom."

1.1 Jason Eckardt: Subject (2011) Jack Quartet with Immersive Lighting Design
1.2 John Zorn: Autumn Rhythm (2015) - World Premiere Jay Campbell, 'Cello
1.3 Jason Eckardt: Paths of Resistance (1997) Jordan Dodson, Guitar
1.4 John Zorn: Necronomicon (2003) Jack Quartet
